OPI Starlight Collection Part 3

Hey there!! I am back tonight with the last 3 of 6 OPI Starlight Collection polishes sent to me for review by Preen.Me

First up is 'By the light of the moon" Its a silver metallic shimmer with a silver metallic mix of hex glitters.

The formula is in line with the others of this collection. Super easy to apply, very smooth. I experienced no pooling at my cuticles and it was opaque in 2 coats but I did use 3 out of habit. Personally this isn't the type of polish that I go for. I don't like combing shimmer with glitter unless the shimmer light and the base is more creme or jelly like. I have noticed several polish like this come from OPI in the last year and really think they need to try a different approach to it. Maybe a gray crelly with a very very fine light shimmer finish would look better? With it being a full bodied shimmer the lovely silver glitters get lost.

Next up is 'Cosmo with a twist'. This is a very dark jelly base with blue-purple duo chrome micro glitters or flakies? I'm not too sure which they are. They are still super pretty.

The formula on this one was a little thicker. I needed 3 coats for full coverage, and to hide the streaks. You definitely need to let this one fully dry before each coat and apply thinly. I'm a thicker, polisher and it did not work in my favor. In the end it dried very level and only needed one coat of my topcoat.

One great little thing is that this polish is almost tri-shifter. Around the edges of the bottle you can see it shift to a red-gold. That didn't show up on my nails unless I held my hand in the water. Luckily for me I was able to capture that and I have a great macro to share with you guys!

The final polish I have to share is a glitter topper 'Infared-y to glow. This one has had me stumped for the last 2 weeks.

I was very unsure how to wear this one. I ended up hand placing the glitters on my middle and ring finger and using 2 coats on my pointer and pinky. I layered this over 'District Token' by Polish TBH. They pair really well together. The glitter bomb is a bit tricky and takes a bit of fishing to get a good selection of glitters on the brush. I love the color combination though and the arrow or half hex shaped glitters are not something I have seen before this collection.

And there you have it. The final 3 of the 6 polishes sent to me by

What do you guys think of them all? Ive seen some great reviews of the other gorgeous shades! I am looking forward to picking up the others. 18 shades? There is always room for more in my collection.

Thanks for stopping by. Ill be back at the end of the week with an update on cosmetology school. We are finally in our nails section. <3

OPI Starlight Collection Part 2 ART!

Hey there internet friends!! I am back like I said I would be :D See I can keep going lol.

Today I am going to share some really fun nail art that I did with the 3 OPI Starlight collection shades I reviewed on monday. Our friends over at Preen asked us to create some looks to get us in the holiday spirit.

My first look was done with 'Press * for silver'. I used nail vinyls to create my gradient and added a little bling for some extra spice. Bonus points for the timelapse "tutorial"!

For my second design I used 'Im in the moon for love' & 'Center of the You-niverse' to create an argyle sweater like design.

And last but not least I couldnt do a manicures to get me in the holiday spirit without including Halloween. I love Halloween. I love everything about fall. I sadly havent gotten to do many Halloween manicures over the 3 years I have been playing with nail art, but this one was very fun.

My base is OPI 'Center of the You-niverse', I used nail vinyls to create the slime with Pipe Dream Polish Happy Hour, & stamped Bundle Monster BM S203 with Mundo De Unas purple.

I hope you have enjoyed these designs and you all have a very HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

OPI Starlight Collection Part 1

Hello my friends. Today I have some polish fun! has chosen select contributors to review the new OPI Starlight Collection.

I received 6 of the 18 new shades to review and create some festive nailart to get us in the holiday spirit! Today I will be sharing 3 of the 6 I recieved along with some simple but still fab nail art designs.

So first up is 'Press * for Silver'. This is more of a rose gold than silver for me. In some lighting it was even more copper or a light beige.

It is one of those high shimmery metallics that needs a few coats to hide any brush strokes or mistakes. I would probably use a ridge filling basecoat over natural nails. Im currently wearing an acrylic overlay (thank you cosmetology school) so my base was very smooth.

The application was a breeze it is just thick enough to hold the pigment without it being a cuticle runner. I used 3 coats to build to opacity and topped it off with HK Girl Top Coat.

The second shade I have for you today is 'I'm in the moon for love'.

Its a beautiful purple with shimmer that is a classic fall/winter shade.

The formula on this was excellent. Easy application with three coats. If I were a bit better polisher I could have gotten away with just two. I topped it off with HK Girl, but I imagine this one will look lovely matte.

The third shade I have to share today is 'Center of the You-niverse'.

This black jelly is packed with silver micro glitters and small black hexes.

Application was again a breeze with three thin coats. Sadly the black glitter hexes get a bit lost in the build up to opacity, but the silver micro glitters take center stage. Even my husband liked the effect of this one.

What do you guys think? Have you seen any of the other shades in this collection? So far Im very impressed. I have had issue before with the OPI formula being to thin and pooling in my cuticles, but these are a step up! Stick around and Ill have 3 nail art designs with these polishes later in the week and 3 other 3 shades in the weeks to come. In the meantime, head over and sign up and start sharing your own looks on

Disclosure: these products were sent to me for free in exchange for my unbiased review.

One Month down!

Hi guys! Im back with an update on my first month of Cosmetology school. Wow, a whole month! LOL While part of me feels like "Gosh, I cannot believe its already been a month" another side of me is like "What!? Only a month?!" I didnt know that time could pass so slowly, yet so fast. I have completed 132 hours out of 1800. I definetly have a long journey ahead don't I?

Well so far I have studied the skin; its diseases and care, makeup, facials, shampooing & hair styling. I had my first practical exam friday and I did really well. We were scored 1-4 on several areas of wet sets, pin curls, curling, updos, & blowouts. I scored mostly 4s with a few 3s and even a 5 thrown in there. For only a month in I am pretty proud of myself. I know I have a long way to go and plenty of time ahead to improve. And just for fun heres a little assortment of updos and wet sets. I firmly support little old ladies being told they cannot tease their wetsets. We need to make this happen people. If not I will be giving a lot of Dracula hairdonts.

One of my first completed wet sets, after being brushed out and after being back brushed and smooth. Darcula, I am the perfect stylist for you! Give me a call.

My most recent wet set on my practical. Definite improvement.

The first day we did updos I got so angry. It was a hot ass mess. Theres no other way to describe it. I ended up taking my mani head home and practiced again. Thats when I got these. I adore them.

For the practical I did a simple bohemian esque bun. One thing I still have trouble with is back combing to get the needed height. All things in time.

Last week our Monday through Wednesday class moved into perming. It took me 2 days to roll 2/3 of a mani head. lol This week and another we will continue perming and hopefully my speed will increase. My biggest downfall right now is timing. I dont pick it up as quick as some of the other girls, but I mean rome wasnt built in a day. Am I right? Yes. Yes I am. I have an entire year of schooling and many many years in the field to increase and grow. Here's to rolling a full head this week! Our thursday and friday class moves into hair color this week and I am super super excited for that! I think it will be an area I do quite well in.

Ill be back soon with a little polish review and you can expect updates on my school adventures in the weeks to come. Thanks for reading!

Cosmetology School... To Be Honest!

Hello my dear reader. I am super excited. Like over the top super excited. After tomorrow I will have completed my first 2 weeks of cosmetology school! I have been anticipating these moments for the last 10 years of my life. As a young adult my goal was to attend, but as some of you may know first hand, life sometimes has other plans. Now my children are all in school full time and so am I!

I am attending Headquarters Academy of Hair Design in Minot North Dakota. It is a 1800 hour program covering the full course of cosmetology. I attend 30 hours per week and I am expected to graduate in November of 2016. My plan is to speed up that process by switching to 40 hours per week once summer break for the children gets here.

The first 2 weeks have been spent doing facials, wet setting, & make up. Facials and make up have been a breeze of course. Very fun, relaxing, something that I have enjoyed. Wet setting has been a challenge for me, fingerwaves have turned out to be my worst enemy, & the marcel is just downright mean! I have to remind myself daily that this is only the first 2 weeks and that I knew this stuff wasnt as easy as it looked. I cannot wait for more.

I have already gotten a new hairstyle & met some very amazing people. I hope you guys will not mind me sharing some of my journey from time to time.

P.S. No clue when we are going to start nails, but you know me I am already reading through the chapters and setting up my nail kit! Its a good thing I have so many supplies already right? I cannot wait to introduce every one to all of my favorite indies!

Fit Girls Guide Review

Fit Girls Guide 28 Day Jumpstart (A NNR Post)
We see it every day. “@Fitgirlsguide Join our next challenge group #28dayjumpstart visit the link in our bio to sign up.” Usually it’s a sponsored ad on our favorite nail pages. Sponsored ads are here, and they aren’t going anywhere. We have to get used to it.

It just so happened that I turned 30 on April 18th, and the next Fit Girl challenge was starting on April 20th. A Monday. My day for starting to lose weight. I mean I turned 30?! Hello it was time to take control of my life. I spent my entire 20s at an unhealthy weight and going through the motions of motherhood and adult life. So I took the plunge and bought the e-book, read up, and went grocery shopping. This plan is based on a 1450 calorie diet, 3 meals a day with 1 or 2 snacks. Each week has a set breakfast and lunch and 2 dinners. You prep 3-4 days in advance so your meals are ready to go. Overnight fridge oats, veggie power bowls, sweet potato street tacos, and little pita pizza party start off your first week. My first week was great. The food isn’t bad at all, it just depends on your preference. You can sub out different ingredients. There are vegan and gluten free options listed. I loved the street tacos so much that I ate them every night for dinner that week.  The exercise plan is pretty simple. 3 rounds of 5 exercises with the reps increasing each week. They want you to complete 30 minutes of exercise each day, so whatever time you have left after you should fill in with more cardio. I followed the program for 2 weeks and then fell ill at the same time as my woman days. I am a sucker for my woman days. Being sick at the same time turned me into a baby. At the end of that time I purchased the Fit Girls Cook companion book to replace some of the meals I wasn’t that fond of. I picked back up at the beginning of week 2 and finished through to day 28. I followed their meal plan and did not waiver. I subbed out their workout for a 30 minute workout program (21 day fix) which is actually super similar to the fit girl workouts (2 rounds, 5 exercises each round, one minute each, repeated). Having the verbal cues telling me what to do was better for me, rather than needing to stop and read what was next or time myself with every move.
I lost 6lbs and 16 inches (bust, waist, hips, legs, arms). There is a visible difference in my body, especially in my back.

I think the 28 day jumpstart is a great jumpstart to get you going. The meal plan still allows for carbs and snacks and even chocolate. It is a great tool for beginning a weight loss journey. But I strongly suggest for you to be sure a 1450 calorie diet is appropriate for your weight and goals. You don’t want to starve yourself or overfeed yourself. And if you’re coming off of a very high calorie diet, you’re going to have hunger pains and find this difficult. Adjust it to your bodies caloric needs. Please keep in mind that at some point you will need to lower your calorie intake to keep loosing if you have a larger goal. The lowest any one should be eating is 1200, and when you come out of a dieting phase at such a low calorie range it is very likely you will gain if you do not stick to the same calorie plan. I would also suggest to be sure you’re drinking the right amount of water for your body during this challenge. This plan called for 8, 8 ounce glasses of water a day. I know that my correct water intake is ½ of my body weight in water. If you are going to take part in a @fitgirlsguide challenge I highly recommend you take part in the wonderful little fit girl community forming on Instagram. Having someone to keep you motivated and accountable is key in any weightloss journey. Feel free to follow my own Fit girl account @fitsgetskris.

My photo set up.

Hi blog world! Im still alive. Im not a very good blogger lol. I hope that you will forgive me. Todays post is not really nail related, but it pertains to how I photograph my pictures for IG. Recently I shared a product on instagram that was making my swatching or nail pictures easier. More information was requested and the best way to share this with my followers is this blog post. It is a mobile phone holder tripod with a bluetooth wireless shutter remote.

As you can see this makes taking macro pictures really easy. I dont have to worry with trying to focus the camera and holding still, and then having to hit the shutter button. I purchased this as a set on amazon with a bluetooth selfie stick. (At a discount in exchange for an unbiased and honest review) The tripod was what I was most interested in as I dont have much use for a selfie stick, but maybe on vacation with the kids it will come in handy.

Anyway both the wireless shutter and selfie stick are very easy to sync with your phone. They are compatible with Android and iPhone. The phone holder attatchment easily transfers from the selfie stick to the tripod. And easily fits my iPhone 6 Plus. Shown here is my iPhone 5 with heavy duty case fitting with ease. The orange attachement comes on and off and is for a more snug and secure fit with the selfie stick. Just so the phone doesnt fall out and smack you in the face. It also some with a mini charge for the selfie stick and a microfiber cloth for cleaning your phone screen or lens.

The set is sold by Gear District on and can be found here It currently retails for $17.99 with free shipping with an Amazon Prime account. The seller unfortunately does not offer this set sold seperately. They did offer a 20% discount if anyone is interested please feel free to send me an email and I will get you a code. They can not offer an open ended code with Amazon, they can create individual codes for each person.

Another item I want to briefly touch on that you can see in my above photo is the macro lens I am using. (Also purchased at a discount in exchange for an honest and unbiased amazon review) It is a universal clip-on lens, that should just about work on any phone. I use it quite often with my iPhone 6 plus and frequently do not even need to remove my slim rubber case. Above in the picture with the tripod I have it clipped over my iPhone 5 in its heavy duty case. This was also purchased on amazon. It is currently retailing for $9.95 and free shipping with Amazon Prime. It is sold by Clipster and can be found here.

Here is an example of my photos with this lens.

And that wraps it up! I hope that this post is helpful. Ill be back later this week with a review of that pesky Fit Girls Guide we keep seeing on our favorite nail instagram pages.
